Twenty to Know in Construction

Talk about building your network: These players can help your business nail that big project. Here is a blueprint for making that happen.

The Kansas City Business Journal continues its “20 to Know” series, introducing readers to people they should get to know in key industries and categories. In this installment, Mary King lists 20 people to know in construction. For each, she provides an introduction and short explanation of why the person is included.

We designed this feature as a replacement for the Power 100 lists published in previous years. The aim isn’t to give you a list of people you might already know, but to show the depth and breadth of talent in the Kansas City area. We hope this feature will give you an excuse to reach out to those you already know and to provide a guide to others you might want to add to expand your network.

Taylor Bauer

President of construction, ARC General Contracting

Bauer began his career at ARC General Contracting in 2004 as a laborer right out of high school. He worked his way up from a superintendent and project manager to vice president of construction before becoming president of construction in January. Along the way, he’s seen the company grow from $4 million in revenue and a handful of employees to $21 million and a staff of 25. Bauer has worked on a number of big-name projects, including Hawaiian Bros locations throughout the area, multiple Starbucks and Chipotle stores, Acre Restaurant in Parkville and Liquor House in Shawnee.

Tabitha Davis

Owner, Prestige Painting Worldwide

A collegiate athlete and University of Central Missouri graduate, Davis began her career in project management for a local general contractor. With work on several medical facilities under her belt, she wanted to use her talents locally and spent three years running several multimillion-dollar developments in Kansas City. In 2017, Davis quit her job on an impulse and started Prestige Painting Worldwide, never looking back. She has done work on the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts and Worlds of Fun. Growing from a one-woman operation, Prestige now has 25 employees and counting.
